Afriex Taps Global Innovations Bank for Cross-Border Expansion

Processing over $600 million in annual volume, payments infrastructure firm Afriex is partnering with Global Innovations Bank to bolster its B2B network. The deal, taking effect in the second quarter of 2026, secures critical settlement and regulatory support as the company pivots from consumer remittances toward enterprise financial services.

The alliance grants Afriex access to Global USD Accounts and enhanced settlement capabilities for its B2B PaymentsAPI. By integrating these services, Afriex aims to simplify the technical burden for fintechs, payroll providers, and ecommerce businesses operating across volatile emerging markets. The platform currently supports money movement in more than 35 countries, leveraging a mix of local payment rails and international banking connections.

CEO Tope Alabi noted that scaling global operations hinges on reliable banking relationships rather than merely adding corridors. This partnership builds on existing ties with Choice Bank in Kenya and United Bank for Africa in Nigeria. Looking ahead, Afriex plans to introduce treasury and foreign exchange services to its infrastructure stack within the next year. Global Innovations Bank Chief Product Officer Alex Goody cited Afriex’s robust compliance program and its focus on emerging markets as the primary drivers for the collaboration, noting that GIB’s experience in cross-border money movement aligns with the infrastructure challenges Afriex intends to resolve for its clients.
