Suspect Found in Dormitory Closet Following Virginia State Shooting

A 19-year-old man was discovered hiding in a dormitory closet on Saturday, hours after an overnight shooting outside Virginia State University left five people wounded. Authorities identified the suspect as Camron Harris of Henrico, who remains in custody following the violent incident that disrupted the campus just before the academic year.

Police arrived at the Quad Annexes shortly after 1:30 a.m. to find five victims between the ages of 17 and 23 suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, a 20-year-old student, has since been discharged from the hospital, while another remains in critical condition. Investigators confirmed that Harris is not a student at the university, and four of the five victims are also unaffiliated with the institution.

Chesterfield County Police have issued eight felony warrants against the suspect, including charges for malicious wounding and firearm use. While initial reports suggested a search for multiple shooters, officials have provided no further details on additional suspects or a potential motive. The incident occurred as students gathered for the start of the fall semester at the historically Black university located in Ettrick. Law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, assisted in securing the area, and the campus lockdown was lifted by Saturday afternoon.
