Thai student kills seven in school and home shooting rampage

The gunman fired at least 26 rounds using a weapon registered to his grandfather, targeting teachers and staff at the school. Emergency responders arrived to find victims with injuries to the chest, back, and arms, while the perpetrator was discovered in a classroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, he died shortly after. The school, which serves approximately 3,100 students, was thrown into chaos as pupils fled the premises while medics scrambled to treat the wounded.

Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong confirmed that both staff and students were caught in the violence, though authorities have yet to establish a motive for the rampage. This incident follows a February school shooting in southern Thailand, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding gun violence in the country. Thailand maintains one of the highest rates of civilian firearm ownership in Asia, with an estimated 10.3 million weapons in circulation. Previous government efforts to restrict access—including bans on new licenses and stricter mental health requirements for owners—have struggled to curb a recurring cycle of high-profile public attacks.
