Ivan Toney charged with assault following Soho nightclub incident

A night out on Wardour Street has ended in criminal charges for England striker Ivan Toney. Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday that the 30-year-old forward faces an accusation of assault causing actual bodily harm, stemming from an alleged altercation that occurred at a Soho nightclub late last December.

The legal proceedings follow an investigation into the December 6 incident. According to a formal statement from the Metropolitan Police, the Al-Ahli player was officially charged on July 31. Toney, who resides in Northampton, is now scheduled to make his initial appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 24.

This development marks a significant turn for the striker, who has been a prominent figure in international football and a member of the England squad for the 2026 World Cup campaign. Having netted 42 goals throughout his previous season, Toney’s transition to the Saudi Pro League has coincided with this mounting legal pressure. Representatives for the player have yet to issue a public response regarding the specific allegations.
