Kejriwal Urges Halt on Vehicle Purchases Over E20 Fuel Concerns

Addressing a press conference in Goa, Kejriwal alleged that the mandatory implementation of E20 fuel lacks sufficient testing. He reported that owners of motorcycles, scooters, and SUVs are experiencing a 25 to 30 percent reduction in fuel efficiency. He argued that the government’s aggressive rollout ignores the technical preparedness required for such a transition.

Goa is particularly vulnerable to these changes due to high private vehicle ownership, with estimates suggesting that 85 to 90 percent of families in the state are impacted. Drawing a comparison to Brazil, which spent over five decades transitioning from E5 to E20 fuel, Kejriwal criticized the rapid pace of the Indian government's policy. He noted that international standards for such transitions typically span one to two decades to ensure infrastructure and engine compatibility.
