Stalin’s remarks on X highlighted an extraordinary eight-decade career, characterizing the late leader as the primary architect of modern Tamil Nadu. He cataloged a record of service that includes five terms as Chief Minister and thirteen consecutive victories as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. Beyond these statistics, the current Chief Minister emphasized Karunanidhi’s reach into literature, cinema, and the foundational principles of the Dravidian movement.
Known widely as Kalaignar, Karunanidhi passed away on August 7, 2018, at the age of 94. His legacy remains visible today through the DMK’s ongoing welfare initiatives and the commemorative events held across Chennai, Thoothukudi, and Kanchipuram. Stalin noted that while the visual icon—the signature dark sunglasses and gravelly voice—is gone, the late leader’s influence continues to shape the state’s governance and social discourse. Party cadres marked the occasion with peace rallies and public service programs, underscoring a commitment to the social justice platform that Karunanidhi championed for nearly five decades.
