Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Rejects All-Party Meeting on Mekedatu Dam

Addressing the Assembly, Vijay defended his administration's approach to the ongoing river water conflict with Karnataka. He stated that the government has already formally communicated its position to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, rendering further broad-based political consultations unnecessary. The Chief Minister urged opposition parties to refrain from using the sensitive issue to secure political leverage, emphasizing that the focus should remain on concrete legal action rather than public posturing.

The pushback follows demands from the DMK and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, who have criticized the current administration for failing to convene a collective meeting. Stalin, recently embroiled in controversy over his public remarks, alleged that the government is utilizing his arrest as a distraction to avoid accountability. He further claimed that agricultural productivity in the Delta districts has plummeted under the current leadership, citing a drop from 6.8 lakh acres of cultivation under the previous administration to 1.5 lakh acres today.
