Trump Backs Calls for Fauci Prosecution

Donald Trump signaled support for the prosecution of Dr. Anthony Fauci on Thursday, aligning himself with Senator Rand Paul’s push for a Justice Department investigation. The former president drew parallels between the pandemic-era official and his own convicted aides, framing Fauci’s conduct as a matter of severe legal accountability.

Senator Rand Paul initiated the demand for legal action, citing Fauci’s refusal to address questions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic during a recent hearing. The senator’s call intensified after the long-time infectious disease expert invoked his constitutional right against self-incrimination more than 100 times throughout the proceedings.

Responding to reporters, Trump compared the potential case against Fauci to the prosecutions of Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon. While noting that the circumstances of his former aides involved charges previously rarely pursued by the government, he argued that Fauci’s actions during the health crisis were significantly more damaging. Fauci, who directed the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for 38 years, remains a polarizing figure following the virus-related deaths of over 1.1 million Americans.
