One boxer reportedly told the broadcaster of their intention to seek asylum.
Simultaneously, Pakistan Today reported that at least one member of the Pakistani boxing delegation also failed to check in for their flight home. The pattern of athletes disappearing from the Commonwealth Games has become a recurring issue at events hosted in Australia and Britain since 2014. Following the 2018 Gold Coast Games, officials spent weeks searching for 50 athletes and staff members, while approximately 190 others filed for asylum. This year, roughly 3,000 athletes from 74 nations participated in the 11-day competition.
