Russian missile barrage hits Kyiv leaving nine dead

Explosions tore through Kyiv as a wave of ballistic missiles struck the Ukrainian capital on Saturday, killing at least nine people and wounding 28 others. The assault, which shattered windows and ignited fires across seven city districts, marks the second major strike on the city within a single week.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha characterized the strike as a deliberate campaign of terror against civilians, citing Russia’s inability to secure decisive gains along the 1,200-kilometre front line. The attack left four children among the wounded, suffering from shrapnel injuries and lacerations. Emergency crews spent the night battling blazes and clearing debris from residential areas, including the Darnytskyi and Solomyanskyi districts, where the fatalities were confirmed.

Nadiia Komarova, a 68-year-old local concierge, described the chaos as ceilings collapsed and windows shattered under the force of the blasts. As authorities work to assess the structural damage across the city of 3 million, the government has renewed its appeal for advanced missile defense systems. Officials maintain that these interception capabilities are essential to neutralizing ballistic threats, which continue to bypass current defenses due to their extreme flight speeds.
