Beijing Rejects US Forced Labor Sanctions Against Xinjiang Firms

The US government added the firms to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List on Friday, citing their alleged involvement in the systemic abuse of Uyghurs and other minority groups in the Xinjiang region. By banning imports from these entities, Washington aims to decouple supply chains from regions where it asserts ongoing genocide and labor exploitation occur.

Beijing responded by warning that it will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights of its businesses. The Ministry of Commerce argued that the sanctions disrupt global supply chain stability and constitute an abuse of domestic US law. Officials reaffirmed that Xinjiang remains prosperous and free of forced labor, urging the US to cease what it characterizes as the malicious smearing of the region’s domestic policy.
