BJP MP Accuses Opposition of Exploiting Student Protests Over Exam Leaks

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Mayank Nayak has accused political opponents of weaponizing student grievances for personal gain, asserting that the government has already met core demands regarding exam security through the passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in both houses of Parliament.

Nayak argued that the central administration under Prime Minister Narendra Modi acted decisively following recent paper leak scandals. By fast-tracking new anti-leak legislation, the government believes it has addressed the primary concerns of the youth. The MP warned students that continued agitation is now driven by political actors rather than genuine academic reform, suggesting these figures seek to aggrandize themselves rather than support the student body.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju echoed this sentiment, describing the legislative process as a success. He maintained that the bill received broad support and characterized any parliamentary dissent as purely performative and politically motivated. While the government views the new law as a necessary strengthening of the existing 2024 framework, opposition members staged a walkout during the final vote. Critics argue the amendments were rushed to pacify protesters without tackling the systemic failures that allow examination irregularities to persist.
