The Ministry of National Defense deployed units across the island, including the 269th Mechanised Infantry Brigade, to validate command-and-control linkages. In Taoyuan, CM32, CM33, and CM34 Clouded Leopard armored vehicles moved to defensive positions alongside Field Information Communications System vehicles. This maneuver demonstrated a shift toward real-time battlefield connectivity, prioritizing rapid deployment as China continues to integrate aircraft, naval assets, and Coast Guard pressure into its daily regional posture.
This exercise marks a departure from previous training cycles, replacing a three-stage framework with a two-phase structure that includes new alert levels for combat preparation. The drill precedes the August 5 launch of Han Kuang No. 42, reflecting a broader effort to modernize Taiwan’s surveillance and strike capabilities, underscored by the recent arrival of the first US-made MQ-9B drones. While Beijing refrained from launching a named counter-exercise during the June window, it responded with a targeted two-day live-fire drill off the coast of Fujian on July 23, immediately following diplomatic talks between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
