The partnership has deepened significantly since 2025, when Angola became a sovereign shareholder in the corporation through a $184.8 million equity stake. This move, bolstered by a $25 million contribution from the country’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, has provided the necessary leverage to unlock large-scale development projects. AFC has focused its resources on critical connectivity, most notably reaching financial close in July 2026 on a $753 million package for the 1,300-kilometre Lobito Corridor Railway. By securing $553 million from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and $200 million from the Development Bank of Southern Africa, the project aims to modernize the link between the Port of Lobito and the Democratic Republic of Congo border.
Beyond rail infrastructure, AFC is actively reshaping the energy sector. A $60 million investment into a $190 million debt facility allowed Etu Energias to acquire stakes in offshore Blocks 14 and 14K, effectively doubling the firm’s production capacity to 19,000 barrels per day. This strategy of empowering local operators will take center stage at the Angola Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition in Luanda this September. As an Elite Sponsor, the corporation intends to use the platform to further integrate its financing expertise with the nation’s long-term goals for industrial diversification and regional trade.
