Kenya Targets Total Energy Access by 2030 Under Mission 300

Government officials and development partners gathered in Nairobi on 8–9 July 2026 to finalize the Compact Implementation Support Document. This framework prioritizes 10 regulatory reforms designed to clear bottlenecks for private capital and streamline the project pipeline. The initiative serves as a cornerstone of the broader Mission 300 program, an international effort to connect 300 million people across Africa to power within the next four years.

Isaac Kiva, Secretary for Renewable Energy, emphasized that the strategy moves beyond initial goal-setting to establish a rigid sequence of institutional responsibilities and financial milestones. Wale Shonibare, Director for Energy Financial Solutions at the African Development Bank, noted that the focus now rests on delivering measurable outcomes. Kenya has already begun laying the groundwork by launching transaction advisory services for hydropower projects and creating a national platform to vet energy investments. Following this workshop, similar implementation sessions are scheduled for Sierra Leone, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and Botswana.
