Italian Manufacturers Demand EU Action Against Chinese Tool Exports

The UCIMU association argues that Chinese manufacturers, having saturated their domestic market, are now pivoting toward Europe with a scale that local firms struggle to match. By mandating that imported machinery meet the same rigorous safety and technical benchmarks as European-made equipment, the industry hopes to neutralize the cost advantages currently fueling China’s export dominance.

"Europe needs common rules that apply to everyone," said Stefania Pigozzi of UCIMU. She emphasizes that the disparity in regulatory compliance effectively subsidizes foreign rivals while imposing heavy compliance costs on local factories. As Italy’s global export position continues to wane, the push for a level playing field has transitioned from a competitive preference to a survival strategy for the broader European manufacturing landscape.
