Energy-sensitive stocks led the premarket climb, with United Airlines and American Airlines gaining 3.7% and 3.9% respectively. Travel sector peers followed suit, as Royal Caribbean and Carnival saw share prices rise by 2% and 3.1%. The cooling of geopolitical friction directly impacted the commodity markets, where Brent Crude plummeted 8.8% to trade at $88.30 a barrel.
This shift in sentiment created a stark divide in performance. While transport and leisure firms benefited, the energy sector faced a downturn. Occidental Petroleum shares shed 3.6%, while Exxon Mobil dropped 3%. Despite the diplomatic pause, underlying risks persist. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains constrained, and ongoing Houthi strikes against Saudi facilities continue to provide a floor for volatility, keeping traders cautious before Wednesday’s Fed announcement.
