Eleven Killed in Strike on Zaporizhzhia Holiday Camp

An overnight assault on a holiday camp in the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia region left eleven people dead, including four children. The strike on the Kyrylivka resort area near Melitopol also injured 16 others, drawing immediate accusations from local authorities that the target was hit with deliberate intent to harm civilians.

Yevgeny Balitsky, the Russian-appointed governor, claimed on Telegram that the attackers were fully aware of the nature of the target. Following the incident, Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a terrorism probe, as reported by the RIA news agency. The site of the attack, located along the Azov Sea coast, remains a focal point of intensifying regional tensions.

Kyiv has not provided a statement regarding the strike. Both nations continue to deny targeting civilians throughout the conflict that began with the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022. The casualty toll from this specific incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing hostilities within the occupied territory.
