Postbank Sets August Deadline for SASSA Gold Card Replacement

With the August 31 deadline approaching, Postbank is pressing social grant beneficiaries to swap their legacy SASSA Gold Cards for the new Postbank Black Cards. Officials warn that failing to migrate before the cutoff risks significant disruptions to grant disbursements as the older payment infrastructure is phased out entirely.

Postbank Sets August Deadline for SASSA Gold Card Replacement

Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thamsanqa Cele reported that replacement sites are already seeing a surge in foot traffic. With demand expected to spike during the final weeks of August, the bank is discouraging beneficiaries from waiting until their scheduled payment dates to seek a replacement. Proactive migration is essential to avoiding the lengthy queues and service bottlenecks predicted for the end of the month.

Cardholders can secure a new Black Card at no cost by visiting participating Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer, or Spar locations. Service points operate weekdays from 9am to 5pm, and a valid South African identity document or temporary ID is mandatory for collection. Those unsure of where to go can locate the nearest site by dialing 120355#.

To streamline the transition, Postbank requests that all inquiries regarding the card switch be directed to their own service points or call center at 0800 5354 55, rather than local SASSA offices. Dedicated support teams are currently handling issues ranging from PIN resets and lost cards to transaction declines and general payment queries.
