The financing empowers the Fonds d'équipement communal (FEC) to scale sustainable, climate-resilient municipal projects. By prioritizing infrastructure in underserved rural areas, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between isolated villages and essential services like health centers and schools. Beyond immediate utility upgrades, the program includes urban renewal efforts designed to foster local engagement through new educational and socio-cultural spaces.
Climate resilience remains a core pillar of the investment, as the country faces increasing pressure on water resources and transportation infrastructure. Alongside the loan, the African Development Bank will provide technical support to enhance the FEC’s operational capacity. According to Bank country manager Achraf Tarsim, the collaboration reinforces the role of municipalities as primary engines for inclusive growth. FEC chief executive Omar Lahlou noted that the deal strengthens the strategic trust between the two organizations, aligning with broader national goals to improve socio-economic conditions for Moroccan citizens.
