US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer framed the decision as a necessary step to address both human rights abuses and trade imbalances that disadvantage American workers. The administration appears to be pivoting toward a more structured legal strategy to rebuild its tariff wall after the Supreme Court invalidated previous "Liberation Day" duties in February. Reports suggest this is merely the beginning of a broader campaign; the White House is expected to introduce further tariffs within weeks targeting countries accused of subsidizing excess manufacturing capacity to flood the US market with low-cost goods.
