Carrefour Sales Surge on French Growth and Brazilian Recovery

Carrefour outperformed analyst expectations in the second quarter, buoyed by a consistent climb in French market share and a turnaround in Brazil. The retail giant recorded a 1% like-for-like sales increase in its home market, signaling momentum that effectively countered previous regional stagnation.

The company’s growth in France marks a fifth consecutive quarter of positive performance, exceeding the 0.8% forecast. Brazil, previously a source of volatility, contributed to the positive results with a 0.4% uptick. Finance chief Matthieu Malige attributed the surge in part to June’s heatwave, which drove robust seasonal demand across the retailer's network.

Management remains focused on long-term profitability through a strategy centered on digital investment and aggressive price reductions. These initiatives aim to secure market share in an increasingly competitive landscape, moving beyond the immediate gains seen in the most recent quarter.
