Opposition Forces Parliament Standoff Over Education Minister’s Future

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav has escalated the monsoon session of the Indian Parliament, demanding the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The opposition block insists that systemic irregularities in recent examinations constitute a failure of leadership that warrants ministerial accountability before any legislative business can proceed.

Yadav framed the government’s decision to order re-examinations as a tacit confession of widespread paper leaks, characterizing the move as insufficient to address the suffering of affected students. Outside the Parliament complex, he condemned the reported police response to student protesters, signaling that the opposition will continue to leverage the crisis to pressure the administration.

Inside the chambers, the atmosphere remains polarized as the INDIA bloc and the NDA trade accusations. While opposition MPs maintain that Pradhan must step down to restore credibility to the national testing apparatus, the NDA leadership dismissed these demands as politically motivated obstructionism. Union Minister Jitendra Singh attempted to de-escalate, reiterating the government's openness to direct dialogue with students, though these assurances have so far failed to break the legislative gridlock.
