VBA Leader Detained as Maharashtra Bandh Grips State

The Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) condemned the detention as a deliberate act of suppression, noting that several party leaders have been served with police notices or placed under virtual house arrest. Party workers attempting to block the Eastern Express Highway faced immediate dispersal by authorities, preventing a wider disruption of morning traffic.

While the bandh seeks to address alleged police brutality, its impact remains concentrated in areas with significant Dalit populations, including Chembur, Ghatkopar, and Dharavi, as well as segments of Sambhajinagar, Akola, and Nagpur. Although the broader political opposition has voiced verbal support for the cause, their lack of participation on the ground suggests the protest may struggle to achieve a truly statewide paralysis. VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar is expected to address the media from his Dadar residence later today to clarify the party’s next steps regarding the ongoing tensions.
