The president’s itinerary features high-level summits with the heads of state in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac confirmed these discussions will center on the South Korean-Mercosur trade accord and a structural upgrade to the existing free trade agreement with Chile. Beyond diplomatic ties, the administration aims to leverage the region’s mineral wealth to bolster South Korea’s food and energy security.

In San Francisco, the mission pivots to the tech sector. Lee will convene with industry titans, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei. This leg of the trip emphasizes capital flow, as the president oversees an MOU signing between top-tier venture firms and South Korea’s National Pension Service to cement long-term investment commitments.
