The layoffs, officially described as an enterprise-wide reduction-in-force, affect staff across mobile, sales, and marketing divisions. While Samsung stated that a majority of the affected employees in New Jersey received relocation offers to Texas, others were let go as the company seeks to optimize its organizational structure. The transition is particularly notable given that the New Jersey team only moved into new offices less than a year ago.
This workforce reduction highlights a sharp divide in the company’s performance. While Samsung’s semiconductor division reports record profits driven by AI demand, its consumer electronics and mobile units face mounting pressure from competitors like Apple, TCL, and Hisense. Rising chip costs have further squeezed margins for home appliances and television lines. Beyond the consumer division, Samsung SDS America has also signaled 179 potential role cuts in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, tied to its own headquarters relocation. Samsung maintains that no broad, global restructuring is currently underway for its consumer products business.
