Why China Is Banking on the Egypt-Turkey Military Rapprochement

For Beijing, the rapprochement between Cairo and Ankara is a geopolitical windfall. Chinese intelligence and strategic planners view the resolution of long-standing tensions—specifically regarding the Muslim Brotherhood—as the removal of a primary source of regional volatility. By fostering a stable environment, these two powers ensure that critical transit points, such as the Suez Canal and key Mediterranean maritime routes, remain shielded from the disruptions often exploited by transnational ideological movements.

Chinese interest in these exercises is rooted in the protection of massive infrastructure investments, including the TEDA industrial zone in Egypt and various logistics hubs. From the perspective of the People’s Liberation Army, the shift toward regional autonomy is an ideal outcome.
