Banerjee dismissed claims that his leadership contributed to internal discord, pointing to the party's 29-seat performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as evidence of his effectiveness. He argued that critics invoke his name primarily to deflect attention from their own legal vulnerabilities and to satisfy the strategic interests of opposition forces. According to the MP, those jumping ship are motivated by opportunistic timing rather than genuine ideological shifts.
The political tension escalated following the demolition of Banerjee’s office, an event he characterized as an act of state-sponsored aggression. While authorities cited unauthorized construction as the grounds for the removal, veteran TMC leader Saugata Roy described the heavy police-guarded operation as a targeted attack on the party’s infrastructure. Banerjee maintains that the misconduct allegations leveled against his office are baseless and intends to pursue legal recourse to resolve the property dispute.
