Manila Protests China Daily Over Dehumanizing AI Video

The Philippine government has formally condemned a China Daily video that depicts Filipinos as monkeys, labeling the AI-generated imagery as racist and entirely unacceptable. Manila has lodged a diplomatic protest following the broadcast, which surfaced amid escalating friction over territorial sovereignty in the South China Sea.

The clip, shared on the state-run outlet's Facebook account, features a primate dressed in Filipino clothing, allegedly controlled by figures representing the United States and Japan. This content arrived during the tenth anniversary of an international ruling that invalidated Beijing’s expansive maritime claims, serving as a blunt critique of Manila’s current geopolitical alignment.

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro condemned the footage as a dehumanizing display that reflects deeper insecurities within the Chinese state apparatus. While Beijing has officially distanced itself from the video, claiming the content does not reflect the government’s formal stance, the incident further poisons an already volatile diplomatic climate surrounding the disputed maritime territory.
