TMC Fractures Deepen Ahead of Shaheed Diwas Rallies

The internal rift within the Trinamool Congress has reached a breaking point, with rebel leader Arup Roy confirming his faction will hold a separate Shaheed Diwas rally on July 21. This move directly challenges the party’s traditional unity as multiple factions prepare to stage competing events across West Bengal.

Roy, serving as the rebel chairperson, framed the decision as an exercise of democratic rights, dismissing concerns over the escalating confrontation. His announcement arrives alongside a wave of high-profile departures, including Rajya Sabha MP Koel Mallick, who recently formalized her exit with Chairman C P Radhakrishnan. The desertions extend to former minister Madan Mitra, who has aligned with the faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee.

Mamata Banerjee has responded by urging those planning to defect to finalize their exits before the July 21 commemorations. In a recent video message, the TMC supremo encouraged members under pressure to act decisively while calling on the state administration to maintain impartiality during the dual events. Despite the hemorrhage of leadership, Banerjee insists she retains the capacity to rebuild the party structure in the wake of these persistent defections.
