Congress Vows to Block Delimitation Bill in Monsoon Session

Jairam Ramesh confirmed on Thursday that Congress will mobilize to defeat the reintroduction of the Delimitation Bill during the upcoming Monsoon Session. The party leadership views the government’s push as a calculated attempt to secure an unconstitutional majority by fracturing the existing opposition coalition.

The opposition's resolve follows a significant legislative victory on April 17, when the government failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha to pass the measure. Congress maintains that the bill remains fundamentally flawed and has called for strict unity among allied parties to ensure the proposal is rejected once again.

Beyond the Delimitation Bill, Ramesh highlighted growing apprehension regarding the Constitutional Amendment Bill and the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025. With an all-party meeting scheduled for July 19, he dismissed the value of such discussions, arguing that the government consistently bypasses meaningful deliberation in favor of decisions reached by a narrow inner circle.
