Mamata Banerjee Targets TMC Rebuild Amid Defections

West Bengal’s political landscape remains fractured as Mamata Banerjee pledges to salvage the Trinamool Congress from a mounting tide of resignations. Following the party's recent Assembly election defeat, the former Chief Minister is drawing parallels to her 2006 resurgence, attempting to rally a base shaken by internal dissent.

The internal turmoil has deepened with a public spat between Banerjee and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra. In a video address, Banerjee accused the defector of endangering his own family, while Mitra fired back, characterizing the party’s central leadership as obsessed with promoting Abhishek Banerjee at the expense of genuine grassroots organization. These accusations highlight a broader dissatisfaction with the party’s current trajectory.

Beyond personnel disputes, Banerjee has cast doubt on the integrity of the recent electoral process, alleging that police forces acted with partisan intent during the polls. While the opposition, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, frames these departures as a necessary stand against authoritarian control, the BJP remains largely dismissive. Locket Chatterjee described the unfolding chaos as an irrelevant distraction, insisting that the public mandate prioritizes economic development over the internal factional maneuvering currently paralyzing the TMC.
