Jan Suraaj Exodus Hits Bihar as Senior Figures Join BJP

A steady stream of political operators abandoned Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party this week, shifting their allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party in a high-profile ceremony in Patna. The mass defection marks a stinging rebuke for Kishor as his former candidates formalize their transition into the state’s ruling coalition.

Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi presided over the induction, welcoming a cohort of local heavyweights that includes former Digha candidate Bittu Singh and mayoral contender Vineeta Bittu. The group is further bolstered by the addition of KC Sinha and Gopal Singh, who previously represented the Jan Suraaj banner in Kumhrar and Maner respectively.

Beyond the headline names, the defections included a broad base of grassroots workers, signaling a potential drain on Kishor’s organizational reach. Bittu Singh cited a fundamental lack of vision within the Jan Suraaj leadership as the primary driver for his departure, contrasting his new party’s strategic direction against his former affiliation. Saraogi expects the influx to reinforce the BJP's standing in upcoming regional contests.
