Truck Driver Sentenced to Five Years for Fatal California Crash

A 22-year-old truck driver, Jashanpreet Singh, received a sentence of four years and eight months in state prison Tuesday for a high-speed collision that killed three people and injured four others on a San Bernardino County freeway in October 2025.

Dashcam footage from Singh’s Freightliner tractor-trailer captured the moment he failed to brake for slowed traffic, slamming into a small SUV before striking multiple other vehicles. The chain-reaction crash ended only after his truck careened across two lanes and hit a disabled vehicle on the freeway shoulder. Eyewitness Jason Calmelat described the scene as sounding like an explosion, noting that the driver made no attempt to swerve or avoid the vehicles ahead.

Singh, who pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in June, was 21 at the time of the incident. Department of Homeland Security records indicate that Singh entered the United States illegally in 2022. Following his conviction, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued an arrest detainer, signaling that he will face potential deportation proceedings upon completing his prison term.
