Syria’s New Parliament Convenes in Post-Assad Transition

The chamber, while currently operating with limited legislative powers, functions as a critical bridge toward a permanent political structure. President Sharaa described the body as a necessary platform for truth and justice, aiming to provide representation in a country still struggling with the scars of conflict. The path to full legitimacy remains complex, given that two-thirds of the seats were filled by regional electoral colleges, while the president appointed the remainder to account for widespread post-war displacement.
