Congress Demands Supreme Court Probe Into Ram Temple Trust Finances

Alleging systemic financial opacity and political manipulation, All India Congress Committee leader Harish Chaudhary has called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. He contends that the management of devotee donations and construction expenditures requires urgent judicial scrutiny to address widespread public concern.

Chaudhary, speaking in Indore, challenged the religious neutrality of the trust, asserting that its leadership is drawn directly from the Prime Minister’s Office and the RSS rather than independent religious figures. He questioned the massive financial outflow for the project, noting that while L&T initially offered to build the temple for one rupee, costs ballooned to over 2,100 crore. The Congress leader further alleged that the trust bypassed market rates for materials and ignored free stone donations, raising questions about the actual beneficiaries of these transactions.

The critique extended to the lack of administrative accountability, specifically the exclusion of the trust from the Right to Information Act. Chaudhary argued that because the entity operates with government backing, it should be subject to public audit. He also linked the timing of the temple's inauguration to electoral cycles, labeling the event a political move rather than a purely spiritual ceremony. By highlighting the questionable track record of officials tasked with investigating donation irregularities, he demanded that the Prime Minister account for the management of the project, framing the issue as a betrayal of the faith and financial contributions of millions of citizens.
