Jailed American Robert Gilman hospitalized in Russia

Gilman’s legal counsel confirmed the hospitalization but declined to provide a specific diagnosis. This development follows a series of legal escalations for Gilman, who was initially imprisoned in 2022 for assaulting a police officer while intoxicated. While Russian authorities maintain the legitimacy of these charges, Gilman’s supporters in the United States allege he was ill at the time of his initial arrest and was intentionally provoked by prison officials to secure further convictions. The case remains politically sensitive, as Gilman has been identified by sources close to the Kremlin as one of nine Americans Washington has sought to repatriate.
