The investigation uncovered a systematic pattern of abuse, ranging from kickback schemes and asset theft to the submission of fraudulent business documentation. These findings have triggered immediate disciplinary action against several internal officials accused of facilitating these arrangements for personal enrichment. TPT Chief Executive Jabu Mdaki stated that the organization is tightening its requirements for partners, emphasizing that the firm’s role in facilitating trade with over 100 international markets demands a standard of integrity that previous supplier relationships failed to meet.
This move is part of a wider purge across Transnet’s business units. The Rail Infrastructure Manager recently suspended four employees, while earlier this year, nine other staff members faced similar disciplinary proceedings, six of whom have since departed the company. To prevent further erosion of operational standards, Transnet is implementing enhanced monitoring systems and internal controls. The company has also expanded its public whistleblower channels, urging citizens to report suspected irregularities as it continues to audit contracts across its various divisions.
