Maharashtra Plans Memorial for Veer Jivaji Mahale at Pratapgad

At the base of the historic Pratapgad Fort, the Maharashtra government will construct a dedicated memorial for Veer Jivaji Mahale. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde greenlit the project, committing an initial 1 crore rupees to honor the warrior who famously saved Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life.

The decision follows sustained advocacy from organizations committed to preserving the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. During a visit to Mahabaleshwar, Eknath Shinde met with these groups to formalize plans for a site that captures the spirit of Hindavi Swarajya. The memorial centers on Mahale’s role in the Battle of Pratapgad, a turning point immortalized by the phrase "Hota Jiva Mhanun Vachla Shiva," which credits him with surviving the encounter to protect the king.

Beyond its historical significance, officials expect the project to increase the site’s appeal to both domestic and international tourists. Minister Desai noted that the monument will complement the existing cultural reverence surrounding Shiv Pratap Din, held annually on November 10. By enshrining Mahale’s heroism, the state aims to reinforce the historical narrative of the fort while bolstering its status as a primary destination for those studying the region’s martial heritage.
