Defense Committee Targets Modernization of State-Run Arms Makers

Under the direction of BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence gathers at the Parliament House Annexe this Wednesday to interrogate the future of Defense Public Sector Undertakings. The session focuses on shifting these legacy institutions toward self-reliance and urgent technical modernization.

Ministry of Defence officials are expected to deliver a comprehensive review of the current state of DPSUs, outlining the roadmap for their transition into more efficient, modern entities. This scrutiny comes as the government pushes to reduce reliance on foreign imports and build a more robust domestic industrial base for national security.

The committee’s focus on industrial reform follows a broader period of strategic evaluation within the capital. Earlier this July, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance examined the regulatory architecture of India's digital financial landscape, specifically regarding the Reserve Bank’s pilot projects. While the defense committee prioritizes hardware and institutional readiness, the concurrent focus on digital assets reflects a government-wide push to tighten policy frameworks across both physical and electronic infrastructure sectors.
