US Launches Strikes on Iranian Targets After Strait of Hormuz Attacks

The United States military initiated a series of precision strikes against Iranian targets on Tuesday following a series of assaults on commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. Washington simultaneously revoked a critical sanctions waiver for Iranian oil, citing a direct breach of the ceasefire agreement established just last month.

The escalation follows reports of multiple explosions across Iranian territory, including the island of Qeshm, the city of Sirik, and the port of Bandar Abbas. According to U.S. Central Command, these operations serve as a response to Tehran’s targeting of three commercial ships in international waters, an act officials described as an unwarranted danger to civilian crews. The move effectively terminates the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June.

President Donald Trump remains in Ankara for the ongoing NATO summit as the situation unfolds. Iranian state media confirmed the sounds of detonations in the maritime region shortly after the Pentagon’s announcement. The White House maintains that the strikes are intended to impose significant consequences for the disruption of global shipping lanes.
