Madhya Pradesh Expands Waqf Board to Include Non-Muslim Experts

In a departure from traditional governance, the Madhya Pradesh government has reconstituted its 10-member Waqf Board by appointing two Hindu financial experts. This shift marks the first time the state has integrated non-Muslim professionals into the body, signaling a move toward broader oversight of Waqf assets and property management.

The newly structured board features Animesh Bhargava among the financial specialists tasked with tightening fiscal discipline. Alongside these appointments, the state has diversified its representation by including four women, addressing long-standing criticisms regarding the board's operational transparency.

State officials maintain that these changes align with existing legal frameworks, despite pushback from various interest groups. By bringing in independent financial expertise, the administration aims to curb systemic mismanagement and ensure that Waqf holdings are utilized with greater accountability.
