The government response centers on the formation of a Special Investigation Team and the arrest of two suspects. Political friction remains high, however, as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accuse one another of exploiting the tragedy. Supporters of Mamata Banerjee held a candlelight march, alleging that the BJP is attempting to stoke communal tensions. TMC MP Kirti Azad dismissed the opposition's rhetoric as theatrical, arguing that the focus must remain on law and order rather than partisan maneuvering.
