Dilip Ghosh Dismisses Opposition Protests as Political Theater

West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh has branded recent opposition demonstrations as orchestrated drama, casting doubt on the sincerity of protests led by Mamata Banerjee. Following the killing of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, the political divide has sharpened, with both sides trading accusations of negligence and manipulation over the tragedy.

Ghosh directed his criticism at the opposition leadership, pointing to past electoral losses and questioning their track record on public safety. He argued that the current fervor contrasts sharply with the apathy shown toward thousands of crimes that allegedly occurred during their previous tenure. The minister’s remarks arrived just as Banerjee held a candlelight vigil to condemn the incident.

Tensions escalated after Trinamool Congress members reported that police prevented Banerjee from reaching the victim’s family. MP Pratima Mandal stated that the leader remains in contact with the family to offer support. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has committed to pursuing strict legal action against those responsible for the violence.
