Ayodhya Temple Trust Faces Internal Crisis Over Financial Allegations

Under pressure from mounting financial misconduct allegations, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust convened in Ayodhya on Monday to confront a growing leadership crisis. The meeting follows resignation offers from key officials and intensifying demands from opposition parties for a formal investigation into the handling of temple donations.

President Mahant Nritya Gopal Das presided over the session, voicing distress regarding the misappropriation claims while urging stakeholders to avoid politicizing the sanctity of the project. He signaled his continued reliance on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to navigate the fallout. Sanjay Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary for Home, attended via video link, underscoring the gravity of the scrutiny now facing the Trust.

The organizational stability of the project remains fragile after General Secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra offered to resign. The situation has split the political landscape: while opposition factions are pushing for a CBI probe into the donation funds, BJP leadership characterizes the scrutiny as an assault on religious faith. The Allahabad High Court is expected to intervene soon, with a public interest litigation already scheduled to address calls for an independent inquiry.
