Zelenskyy Rejects Russian Claims of Kostiantynivka Capture

A sharp contradiction emerged Saturday as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian General Staff dismissed Russian assertions that Kostiantynivka has fallen. While Moscow military officials reported the city’s capture to Vladimir Putin on Friday, Kyiv maintains that its defensive lines remain firmly intact within the strategic Donetsk stronghold.

Zelenskyy labeled the Russian reports as calculated propaganda. He offered a cynical challenge to the Kremlin, suggesting that if Moscow truly held the city, Putin would have no reason to avoid a face-to-face meeting there to discuss peace. The General Staff confirmed that Ukrainian forces continue to operate throughout the area, reinforcing defenses that act as a vital buffer in the industrialized east.

Kostiantynivka serves as a linchpin in Ukraine’s regional strategy. Military analysts note that any loss of the city would significantly accelerate Russian northern advances. While Moscow continues to announce territorial gains across the front, these claims currently lack independent verification, leaving the status of the contested territory a focal point of ongoing friction.
