Congress Alleges BJP Moves to Consolidate Power via Constitutional Shift

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has accused the ruling BJP of orchestrating a strategy of revenge politics designed to secure a supermajority for sweeping constitutional changes. While dismissing the government’s recent all-party meeting as a hollow formality, Ramesh warned that critical legislative agendas are being finalized behind closed doors.

The criticism follows internal murmurs within the Congress ranks, specifically regarding a recent gathering led by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in Morinda. Addressing the discord, Ramesh maintained that the party functions as a platform for diverse viewpoints, contrasting this with what he described as the authoritative constraints imposed by the BJP. He insisted that while party discipline remains a priority, the freedom to express differing opinions is foundational to the Congress ethos.

Beyond internal party dynamics, Ramesh focused on the upcoming Monsoon Session. He argued that the government habitually ignores genuine parliamentary input, preferring to unilaterally determine the legislative calendar. According to the MP, the push for the Delimitation Bill and the potential 'One Nation, One Election' initiative are not products of consensus but of a calculated effort to alter the structure of Indian governance. He characterized these maneuvers as a psychological play aimed at long-term power consolidation.
