Rijiju and Birla Convene Legislative Training in Kolkata

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju arrived at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Friday to anchor a two-day orientation programme on parliamentary procedure. Designed for newly elected West Bengal Legislative Assembly members, the initiative aims to refine legislative effectiveness and reinforce executive accountability through expert-led technical sessions.

The programme, which launched on July 3 under the guidance of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, serves as a bridge for state lawmakers to engage with constitutional experts and seasoned parliamentarians. Speakers including Deputy Rajya Sabha Chairperson Harivansh and Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee joined the assembly to examine the nuances of the committee system and parliamentary privileges.

West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose delivered the opening remarks, setting the stage for discussions on governance standards. The sessions conclude on July 4 with a valedictory address from West Bengal Governor RN Ravi, joined by Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh and Speaker Birla to finalize the exchange of democratic practices.
