K.T. Rama Rao Accuses Telangana Government of Democratic Suppression

A standoff between the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress administration escalated Thursday as K.T. Rama Rao condemned the government for avoiding a public debate on state debt. Citing the sudden cancellation of a scheduled appearance by Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, the opposition leader accused the ruling party of cowardice.

The tension centers on conflicting narratives regarding Telangana’s fiscal health. Rama Rao rejected the government’s debt figures, claiming they contradict findings from the Reserve Bank of India and the Comptroller and Auditor General. He further alleged that the administration has abandoned 420 electoral promises made under the 'Praja Palana' manifesto, opting instead for what he described as oppressive tactics to silence dissent.

Police intervention intensified the friction when officers blocked Rama Rao’s path to Gun Park and arrested senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao. Terming these actions an assault on democratic rights, Rama Rao demanded an immediate special session of the Legislative Assembly to address the state's governance failures. As the BRS prepares for statewide protests, the party continues to challenge the Congress administration’s transparency, while simultaneously criticizing the BJP for remaining silent on the alleged corruption within the current state leadership.
