TMC Factional Crisis Moves to Election Commission

A 10-member delegation led by Ritabrata Banerjee is heading to New Delhi to challenge the leadership of Mamata Banerjee before the Election Commission. The move follows a formal request for intervention, marking a sharp escalation in the internal struggle for control over the Trinamool Congress and its official election symbol.

TMC Factional Crisis Moves to Election Commission

The upcoming meeting with federal regulators serves as a pivotal moment for the splintered party. Tensions reached a breaking point after 58 of the 80 TMC MLAs formally declared their opposition to Mamata Banerjee, throwing their support behind the Ritabrata Banerjee faction. This group now asserts that they represent the legitimate political successor of the original organization.

Banerjee confirmed that the delegation secured the meeting following a contentious special session held on the 22nd. By seeking the Commission's arbitration, the faction aims to solidify its claim to the party's identity and electoral assets, effectively forcing a national-level resolution to a power struggle that has paralyzed the party's West Bengal operations.
